If only Kamala had won.
We are in uncharted waters during unprecedented times. Back in January 2025, the United States confirmed the 2024 election and inaugurated President Donald Trump. Since then, it has been news flash, after breaking news, after news flash. Trump once again owns the news cycles. As promised, on day one Trump stayed up all night signing executive orders. He is doing his best to undo Democratic momentum created by the previous administrations.
If only Kamala had won.
Now we have to find a work around to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA). In one failed swoop President Trump is reversing decades of progress since the civil rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, and all workers rights. Why is it such a bad thing to have a diverse pool of voices, strengths, and abilities. We have learned just with the explosion of AI technology, that intelligence is only as good as the minds that prepared it. A broad spectrum paradigm that is immersive and inclusive of the community it serves it the only true way to ensure equality.
If only Kamala had won.
On the subject of intelligence, now the Department of Education is at stake. The President had promised to dismantle the federal education agency seeking to give education authority to the state. This could put employees out of work but also jeopardize the grant funding available to states for education related programs. Taking money from children is dirty work. Trump actually didn’t stop there.
If only Kamala had won.
The conversation of shaking up the federal government actually began with ordering employees to return to work full time or given them the option of forced resignation. If this effort pans out there will be thousands of federal worker looking for jobs in the Fall. The justice department has not yet weighed in if these tactics are legal but the public is forming their opinion.
If only Kamala had won.
In the words of Kamala Harris “Let's look at how we got here”. Donald Trump used less than honorable tactics to secure his nominations. From name calling and insults, to exploiting the pain points of his voter base. Misinformation on social media and websites, and advertising played a major factor during the election. People were over-saturated with information and often times chose the opponent who appeared to have stuck to the issues. Then there was a core voting base that stayed home. The voting experience is so impactful but there are so many who do not trust the process. The electoral process has been criticized throughout history. In many states comparing popular votes to the delegate votes are the only way to get a sense of the accuracy of citizen choice.
If only Kamala had won.
If Kamala had won, some things would have remained as status quo. Not much economic improvement was to be expected. Still, Kamala understood the plight of people, all people. There would be so much more opportunity available for the lower and middle class. Now we are left to fight for scraps as the wealthy form an oligarchy take over. The times are changing but the communities affected must find ways to thrive regardless of the plight. We shall overcome as a nation because we always have and always will.
If Kamala had won, maybe we would have continued to be comfortable and not strive and pushed for better for ourselves and surrounding communities.
