District of Fashion : The Show

Washington DC has officially stamped itself as a Fashion Capital. While the city has always had a reputation for producing some of the most renown designers, models, and artists, many of the talent seem to slip away and plant in areas around the country. Determined to make the nation's capital an epicenter for fashion, many have joined the ranks to bring large-scale fashion events to the growing scene. Just before the September explosion of fashion weeks in DC and around the world, Downtown BID hosted the District of Fashion SS20 runway show. A fairly new concept has quickly become the hottest creative event of the year. In only one year and 3 shows, District of Fashion has socialites and fashion enthusiasts eager to get put on the list.
The beauty of this event was that it culminated and showcased the efforts of DC government with its partnership with the Mayor's Commission of Fashion, Arts, and Events (CFAE) and the office of Cable Television, FIlm, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME). In addition the show is a part of 202Creates, a government program to enhance creative entrepreneurship in the city.
The runway show was everything to be expected of a New York or Paris Fashion Week show.
District of Fashion SS20 was held in the beautiful courtyard of the Smithsonian American Art Museum & Renwick Gallery. Hundreds of attendees filled the room. Guests enjoyed music open bar, and a variety of delectable hors d'oeuvres. With dozens of photographers, guests had plenty of photo opportunities to include an illuminated photo booth and a number of backdrops. What more could a fashionista ask for?
Above all, the fashion was on trend for Spring/Summer 2020. The designers gave us everything from bright colors, neutrals, floral and tribal patterns. There was ready-to-wear, beach wear, as well as high fashion gowns. In the final scene, model Midori Amae wore a chiffon gown by Didomenico that illuminated after she gracefully touch a button embedded in her gown. That moment exemplified and captured the splendor of the night.
