Congressional Black Caucus 2016

Those in the Greater Washington Area this past weekend were in for a treat this past weekend. Wednesday September 14th, 2016 kicked of the 46th Annual Congressional Black Caucus Week. The CBC is the nation's largest policy conference that address issues impacting the African Americans communities. This year the focus was on the "purpose and the power of the African American vote".

Wednesday through Saturday the convention center was filled with men and women who are attending workshop, show cases, and we cant forget about the amazing vendors and book pavilion. Congressmen and women shared their views in diverse panel addressing issues and policies. Captivated audiences yearning information and opportunities that reform in diverse industries. Spectator were in for a treat. This was a star studded event with guests and panelists such as Omari J. Hardwick (Power), Roland Martin (Journalist), and Malik Yoba, Ronreaco Lee (actor), Ricky Smiley (comedian) and many more. Many familiar faces were present in the popular panel "My Brother's Keeper" by Congresswoman Federicka Wilson in conjunction with the White house.

Thursday night CBC Spouses we were highlighted at the 20th Annual Celebration of Leadership in the Fine Arts Award. Lifetime achievement Awards went to Cicely Tyson, Richard Roundtree and Dionne Warwick. Trendsetter Award went to Chadwick Boseman who gave a rhythmic presentation thanking CBC Spouses, giving honor to Howard University and

encouraging the support for the upcoming film The Birth of Nation which was met by controversy.

Saturday was the much anticipated Pheonix Dinner with CBC's own President Barack Obama and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton as guest speakers. On Sunday, members of the CBC enjoyed a cruise on the Potomac to end an uplifting week.
